Risks

What can go wrong: the quote's issuer can pause, freeze or move it, the vault can be withdrawn or go to zero, payback only comes at the multiple, and coins are not shares.

The admin and the dev key can withdraw vaults

Quote-issuer risk

A tokenized stock is a token its issuer controls. On an xStocks-quoted launch, the issuer can:

  • Move or burn tokens from any account (a permanent delegate), a launch’s quote vault included.
  • Pause all transfers of the token. Deposits, trades, payouts and claims fail cleanly until it resumes; the agent stands down.
  • Freeze accounts, yours or a vault’s.
  • Turn on a transfer hook later. The program refuses to trade a quote whose hook becomes active.
  • Change the display multiplier (corporate actions such as splits and dividends). On-chain amounts stay raw; the UI amount and USD value shift with it.

USDC’s issuer can freeze accounts too. xStocks are not available to US persons. A coin priced in a stock also moves with that stock, including gaps over closed markets.

What you hold

Vault and payback risk

  • The vault can go to zero. It buys dips with its quote; a coin that keeps falling leaves it holding tokens worth less than it paid, and the admin or the dev key can withdraw it.
  • Payback only at 5×. When the vault's liquid quote is 5× what it held at launch and the chart is strong, the agent may pay backers back (principal first, then 15% of the vault at most every 4h). Buying back dips always comes first. A vault that never reaches 5×, or whose chart is weak at every 4h check, pays nothing beyond your share of creator fees.
  • Wind-down can return less than principal. Once a launch is at least 3 days old, no vault trade for 24 hours, and wallets outside the vault and the venue hold 5% of the supply or less, anyone can end it; it sells into a dead market and splits whatever quote is left.

Market risk

Other holders can sell at any time. The vault agent is rate-limited and trades only on its own rules; it does not hold a price. Thin curves move a lot on small trades.

Protocol and operator risk

  • Smart-contract risk. The Backstock program, Raydium LaunchLab and CPMM, and the SDK are software and can have bugs.
  • Upgradeable program. While an upgrade authority exists, an upgrade could change any rule. Check it on Verify on-chain.
  • Agent risk. If the agent is offline or paused, the vault doesn’t trade and no payback runs. Inside its limits it can still make bad trades. Its status is public at /agents.
  • Admin controls. Besides vault withdrawals, the admin can pause new launches and deposits, pause the agent, and enable or disable quote assets for new launches. Trading on the venue, refunds and claims don’t depend on it.
  • Creators. A creator can’t touch the bundle but can buy the coin like anyone else, and metadata is whatever they uploaded. Launches aren’t vetted.
